Papers of Vietnam

Dó & Du'óng Papers

Vietnam

Dó paper from a traditional village in Bac Ninh with a 500 year tradition of papermaking, using an ancient paper making technique which first appeared in Vietnam during the XIII century. Thanks to the unique natural fibre of the Do bark (Rhamnoneuron balansae), Dó paper is renowned for being very durable and resilient with a subtly textured surface. Historically, this paper was used for the writing of ancient Chinese Manuscripts, folk painting and also for the issuing of honor certificates by feudal dynasties.

Papers made from Dó bark (latin name:Rhamnoneuron balansae), a plant which grows only in Vietnam, are lighter and smoother than other Asian Mulberry papers. This is mainly used for painting and calligraphy.

Du'óng paper made from Du'óng bark (mulberry family) which grow wildly in Southest Asia. You can see simliar paper from Asia like Lao, Thai, India, Nepal... This paper making group have been trained by Japanese expert. The paper mixed with local plant like "cam hong" or "hoang dang" which made it special and 100% natural.
